Life for Maverick Maccone after high school hadn't exactly gone smoothly. The financial stress, the break-up, the job he wished he didn't need... to him, it was all a nightmare. But when his life comes crashing to an end--literally--Maverick wishes it all back. He's chased down into the corrupt city of Penumbra, where the dead pay off the karmic debts they accumulated while they were alive.

The system is broken, the laws are absurd, and something in Maverick's past life has come back to haunt him. The only way out is a harrowing excursion across the vast unknowable Purgatory with a ragtag team of ill-assorted souls.
